The Long County Blue Tide travels to Reidsville tonight to take on the Tattnall County Battle Creek Warriors.
The Warriors are coming
off a 52-0 win over the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets and
currently have a 3-1 record. They also beat Claxton High School (33-20) and Savannah Country Day (34-8). Their
lone loss came at the hands of powerhouse Charlton County, 30-14.
The Tide, on the other hand, is still looking for its first win of the season. They lost last week 45-10 to the Benedictine Cadets. Their other losses have come from Johnson High School (14-33), Appling County (7-35) and McIntosh County (0-40).
Long County has had a brutal schedule so far. The combined record of their first four opponents is 15-3. And playing the Yellow Jackets won’t be a cake walk.
The Warriors are averaging 33 points a game, compared with the Tide’s 8 per night. Tattnall County is strong on defense, having given up only 14 points so far compared with the Blue Tide’s 38.
Last year when the teams met in Ludowici, the Warriors won 55-28.
Long County has been improving, however, and appears to be on the verge of a win. During last week’s game against the Cadets, the Ludowici team moved the ball well in the first period, but BC took over with a solid running game.
With the Tide looking to pull off an upset, they’ll need to improve on catches and allow fewer turnovers. Turnovers and dropped passes have hurt the squad all year. Although the passing game needs work, Long County running backs Brandon Hope and Marcus Williams have been able to move the ball on the ground.
Tonight’s game starts at 7:30.
