The Bradwell Tigers track team took home first place honors at their second meet of the year Thursday, Feb. 14. The competed against teams from Liberty, Wayne, Richmond Hill, Long, and New Hampstead.

“It is always a pleasure to compete against great coaches,” Tigers coach DeAndre Davis said. “All of the athletes competed and pushed each other.”

The athletes continue to improve every week, according to Davis. The Tigers’ sprinter, Shamar Rose, won both the 100 and 200 meter sprint. The unofficial times were 21.5 seconds in the 200 meter, and 10.59 seconds in the 100 meter.

“He was running like he had something to prove,” Davis said. Freshman Devin Nash finished third place in the 100 meter. His speed and agility will be dangerous by the end of the year, Davis continued. The Tiger’s Triple Jumper jumped 44-feet and three inches.

“This is only the third week of working with the event,” Davis added.

The distance runners, however, were the highlight of the night, according to Davis. Runner Simon Steele won the 1600 and the 3200.

“This kid gives you his all, week in and week out,” Davis said. “He was running like he had something to prove.”

Overall, the team had 17 personal records from the meet on Feb. 14, he continued. The Tigers travel to Atlanta this week to compete against 22 other schools at the Early Bird Invitational Feb. 23.
