Bradwell Institute’s boys soccer team made school history Wednesday, defeating Union Grove 3-1 for Bradwell’s first state playoff victory.
The Tigers dominated the pitch, controlling the ball and the tempo for the majority of the 40-minute match.
Bradwell struck early with Chris “Prince” Schuster scoring two goals in the game’s first 11 minutes.
The freshman used his speed to dash by a Wolverine defender on the left side of the goal to score the first goal. Eight minutes later, it was déjà vu as Schuster again found the back of the net.
Union Grove, like several teams this season, immediately put two defenders on Schuster.
The Wolverines, however, wouldn’t drive three hours back to Metro Atlanta without a goal.
In the 19th minute, Clay Gwantley rebounded his own penalty kick and put the ball by goal keeper Michael Griffin to slice the Tigers’ lead to one.
Griffin, however, played superbly the rest of the match. The few shots Union Grove would later kick never got by the senior.
In the second half, the Tigers added another goal for insurance when Daniel Lee scored in the 18th minute.
