The Bradwell Lady Tigers suffered a tough loss their first game of the Paulson Tournament at the hands of the Richmond Hill Lady Wildcats with a score of 21-0. Senior centerfielder, Kelsey Rogers, got the lone hit of the game for the Tigers.
Things were looking up for the Tigers in their second game, against McIntosh Academy. During the first inning, Patrice Antalan reached first on a walk and stole both second and third bases. Patrice scored on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey. The Tiger's catcher, Danielle Jacobs, doubled, advanced to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on Barbara Rego's single. The second inning, the Lady Tigers scored three additional runs with hits by pitcher and right-fielder Danielle Durham, 1st baseman, Tamika Lipscomb, Patrice, and another sacrifice bunt by Kelsey. The Tiger's 6th and final run of the game came in the third inning when Brandi Huerd led off with a double, went to third on a pass ball, and scored on Durham's fielder's choice. Final score was 18-6.
The last game of the day was against Calvary Baptist. Freshman, Karson Rogers, Kelsey's younger sister, led off the third inning with a hit, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Karson scored on Patrice's single. 14-1 was the final score. Leading hitters for the tournament were Patrice with 2 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI. Kelsey had 1 hit, 3 sac bunts, and 2 RBI's, Dani Jacobs had 1 hit and 1 RBI, Karson had 2 hits for the day.
"Our young Tiger pitchers worked hard on the rubber, but inexperience and lack of practice definitely showed during the games, we walked far too many opponents. Brandi, Danielle, Karson, and Barbara now understand how important throwing 50 pitches a day is to improving their performance on the diamond. "Karson and Barbara are attending pitching lessons on top of regular practice with the team. Danielle Durham works with her dad at home to hone her skills." "If Hurricane Fay stays away we will be able to play our home game Thursday against Brantley County."
