EVANS – Another furious finish for the Bradwell Institute Tigers came up just short.

The Tigers, who trailed by 14 points less than five minutes into the game, fell 35-31 on the road Friday to the Evans Knights.

With the loss, the Tigers slipped to 2-7 on the season and 1-6 in Region 1-AAAAA. The Knights improved to 5-4 and 3-4 in the region.

Bradwell failed to convert on four two-point conversion attempts and twice got inside the Knights 30-yard line in the second half but did not score.

The Tigers ran 41 plays to the Knights’ 14 in the second half and they posted a staggering 509 yards of offense, 345 coming in the second half.

Jacoby Pasley ran for 122 yards and had another 72 yards receiving, accounting for three touchdowns.

Breyden Johnson’s 2-yard TD run put Evans up 14-0 with 7:39 left in the first quarter. Their first scoring drive was aided by three consecutive offsides penalties on Bradwell, and the Tigers committed five offsides penalties.

Pasley darted in from 38 yards out with 1:35 to go in the first quarter for the Tigers’ first score. But they found themselves in a 21-6 hole when Johnson bolted in from 47 yards midway through the second quarter.

Carlito Savea scrambled for 23 yards on fourth and 11, and Wade Cobb plunged in from 2 yards out on the next play to bring the Tigers within 21-12. Cobb finished with 97 yards rushing.

Kevin Irving’s interception set up the Tigers at the Knights 44, and Savea plowed in from 1 yard out with 1:47 remaining. But a third failed two-point try left the Tigers trailing 21-18.

Pasley scored on a 3-yard run to cap the Tigers’ first possession of the second half, and Ivan Tover Torres’ point after gave Bradwell a 25-21 lead.

Evans responded, as Johnson burst 67 yards on the first play of the ensuing possession, and Jackson Swint scored on a 1-yard keeper to put Evans back in front.

After an incomplete pass on fourth down at the Knights 29 ended the next BI threat, the Tigers drove 64 yards in 16 plays, but Torres couldn’t connect on a 34-yard field goal try.

Johnson, who ran for 268 yards on 25 carries, burst through the line on thirdand-1 for a 71-yard touchdown run, putting the Knights ahead 35-25 with 6:44 remaining.

Bradwell got back down to the Evans 15 on the next possession. On second down, Savea’s pass to Braelon Brock fell incomplete, and Savea was knocked out of the game on a crushing hit from Evans’ Jack Herrington. The Tigers also were assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty in the aftermath as Savea was tended to by trainers from Bradwell and Evans.

Tyon Jones’ pass on fourth-and-29 into the endzone fell incomplete to end the series.

Bradwell got the ball back with 1:50 left, and Jones found Pasley for a 51-yard scoring strike with 1:11 remaining. The Knights, however, got the ensuing squib kick and ran out the clock.

The Tigers rolled up 242 yards rushing and 267 yards passing, along with 22 first downs. The Knights chalked up 353 yards on the ground.

The Tigers will finish the regular season this Friday night against Brunswick. The No. 8-ranked Pirates beat South Effingham 57-20.

Brunswick, 8-1 overall and 7-0 in the region, already has secured the region title.
