Bradwell Institute’s new football coach, Deshon Brock, got a chance to evaluate his football team after their Blue vs Gold scrimmage held last week.
“The Blue and Good game has given me the opportunity to truly evaluate our guys in a real game type situation and now I’m able to set a depth chart based off performance,” he said.
Brock said his team played well.
“The guys stepped up and made some big stops when they needed to on both teams,” Brock said. “Offensively we showed signs of progress but there is still a lot of work to be done.”
Since joining the Tigers as the new head coach Brock has worked hard to develop a close relationship with the players.
“I think the relationship with the players is developing well,” he said. “They are taking to my style of coaching and are adjusting to the new style of play on both sides of the ball. We have some great young men who work extremely hard.”
Brock said he has a strong group of veteran seniors returning this year that are showing a lot of promise and talent.
“They are humble and hungry for success,” Brock said. “They exemplify the phrase senior leadership. They take charge in practice and in the weight room and it’s great to see. I’m looking forward to working alongside them this season.”
As for the season, Brock said the goal is to improve each day.
“One percent better every day is our goal,” he said. “We are shooting for the playoffs year one. Our other main goal is to get in the state tournament. You play to win and that’s what we will be trying to do.”
It won’t be easy as the Tiger have a tough schedule penciled out this season.
“Six games on the road versus some quality opponents,” Brock said. “We will be battle tested come playoff time and ready for whatever comes our way. Our focus is one game at a time and to focus on who is in front of us week to week.”
