Tigers split games with Brunswick

The Bradwell Institute Tigers split victories in a cross-region doubleheader in Brunswick Thursday.
The Pirates won game one, 3-1, and the Tigers edged out the Pirates in game two, 6-5.
Tiger Evan Crystal allowed only two hits and two runs in the first showdown. He threw five innings, netting six strikeouts. Chris Bell closed the game pitching the final inning for the Tigers.
Maxwell Ashe went a perfect two for two at bat and the Bradwell boys summoned up seven hits against the Pirates, but left too many players on base.
The second game had the squads trade lead five times. The Tigers took the edge in the seventh off a fielder’s choice by Stephen Felton.
Bell pitched five innings of the second game, striking out seven, giving up only three hits and three walks.
The game was tied 2-2 in the inning off a double by Ryan Desbiens and runs scored by Bell and Crystal.
Brandon Woodard and Desbiens were one of three with 1 RBI each. Hunter Hawkins and Javin Tripp each had 1 RBI and Bell reached base four times.
Felton pitched the final two innings, tossing three strikeouts and walking four.
The Tigers earned their first Region 3-AAAAA win with the victory. They are 7-15 overall and 1-13 in region play. The Tigers will host Brunswick Monday for a double-header beginning at 4:30 p.m.
