Bradwell Institute’s boys’ track team, consisting of 10 of its best athletes, finished fourth overall in the 2015 Beach Run Invitational on Saturday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
According to BI boys’ track coach DeAndre Davis, the two-day event featured 26 teams, with some from as far away as Ohio. He said he was thrilled his team’s finish.
“We only took 10 boys to compete. … That is not even half of our team,” he said, adding that it was difficult, but it was a great measuring tool for his elite performers. “All of the (other) teams there brought their whole team with them.”
The coach said the Tigers were tied for second place going into the final event.
“Several athletes stepped up this weekend,” he said, noting that Tiger Stephon Green did not win the discus but did hit a personal best of 133 feet, good for sixth place. Also, Kevin Hallman ran the 200-meter dash in 22.39 seconds for third place, which was his second time running the event. Tyler Delory ran the 2,000-meter steeplechase for the first time and finished seventh overall.
Lorenzo Brinson was the highest individual placer for BI by finishing second in the long jump.
The Tigers start the Region 3-AAAAA tournament in two weeks.
