Kicking off its second season of summer track meets, the We Run It Track Club recently returned from Orlando, Fla., where the squad did well at its first contest this year.

Competing at the Golden South Classic under the guidance of track coach Nathan Mims, 10 competitors, primarily students from Bradwell Institute, Liberty County High School, Liberty Elementary, Snelson Golden Middle School, Lewis Frasier Middle School, Midway Middle School and Groves High, placed in the top eight or better in different events. Of those 10, nine earned medals for sixth place or better finishes in their respective events.

"Last year, we went to this same meet and only a few athletes brought back some medals," Mims said of his team members, who range in age from 8-19. "This year was truly better and I think all the athletes would agree with me."

Mims said he has roughly 25 kids on this year’s summer squad.

"I’m just trying to let everybody know track and field is a great sport to get involved in," he said.
