Ashley, Alexia and Juell Gilroy 100 and 200

The Long County Recreation Department’s track and field team had 12 athletes qualify to compete at the state track meet.

The team competed at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) district meet April 17 held in Camden County. The team competed against numerous large counties to include Camden, Glynn, Ware, Wayne, Alma, Bacon McIntosh and Appling.

The top three athletes in each event advance to the state competition. Long County had 12 athletes qualify in 19 events.

Track and field coach Karen Higgason said, “I am incredibly proud of these kids.  We had a shorter season than normal, yet the kids pushed hard and adjusted to some different runs than they started out with and did well. Long County is growing and we hope to have more runners qualify next year.”
