Jenkins High’s baseball team has lost only one game this season. It was against the Liberty County Panthers on March 3.

Wednesday, the Warriors avenged that loss, defeating the Panthers 7-2 with Warriors’ pitcher TJ Page taking the win and getting 13 strikeouts.

Panther coach David Samuel said, despite the loss, it was a well played game, allowing his squad to battle against a top seeded team and preparing them for upcoming region games.

The Panthers did get 3 hits against Page and had runners on base from the 3rd to the 6th inning. Their two runs were scored in the 5th inning off a hit by Joe Watkins.

Panther Cody French pitched his first game of the season.

"Cody threw well tonight, considering he hasn’t thrown off of a mound in quite some time and on short notice," the coach said. "My starter for tonight’s game had a sore shoulder, so I called on Cody about an hour before game time. Eddie (Chipple) came on for the final 7 outs and only gave up 2 hits."

The Panthers turn their focus to tonight’s away game at 6 against Burke. Saturday they are scheduled to host Baldwin at 2 p.m., but the game time may change due to Baldwin’s prom night.
