Construction on a new eight-foot-wide concrete walkway and softball batting cages is under way at James Brown Park.

"The workers are in the process of forming the new walkway," Liberty County Recreation Department Director Jimmy Martin said. "But first they had to take up all the tree roots and form it up."

Martin said the new walkway should be completed within a month, depending on Mature Nature who has interrupted a few work days recently with rain.

As for the new softball batting cages, Martin said D.L. Long has poured the concrete foundation and the poles for the fencing are set. Once the fencing is complete Martin said LCRD employees will set the netting in place to finish the job.
