The Lady Yellow Jackets of Wayne County High School swarmed onto the Lady Panthers’ field Tuesday afternoon stinging the team with a
9-0 loss.
"Our girls did not show up to play," Lady Panthers coach Jerome Standard said. "Our defensive was poor our offense was non existent."
The coach said Cassie Standard took the loss on the mound, allowing seven hits, walking seven players and earning only five strikeouts.
The coach said the Yellow Jackets' pitcher did extremely well, tossing 12 strikeouts and giving up only one hit.
Lady Panther Dominique Sibley, who slugged a double, had the lone hit.
On a positive note, the coach said his JV squad redeemed the Panthers by clawing the Yellow Jackets 13-1 in four innings.
"They really opened up the season well for us," Standard said of his younger squad.
The Lady Panthers were scheduled to travel to Washington County on Thurs-day afternoon, but the game would be dependent on the course of Tropical Storm Fay.
Regardless of possible schedule changes, coach Standard thinks his team should start to improve as the season progresses.
"We can only move up from here," he said.
