Team USA weightlifter Jenna Bussard is primarily focused on coaching the Team Hinesville weightlifters these days. The world-ranked Olympic weightlifter, who has has traveled and competed around the world, said many people influenced her weightlifting career. She recently talked with the Courier about the five people who have inspired her the most.
• “First and foremost, my mom, Shirley Bussard,” she said. “She is the one who was behind me and backed me up 100 percent when I told her that I wanted to do Olympic weightlifting and it was the thing I was going to do.”
• Bussard said the second most influential person was her first coach, Stephen Powell. “He got me started in power lifting and then converted me over to Olympic Weightlifting.”
Her third choice is weight lifter Natalie Woolfolk. “She probably weighs around 145 pounds and she can snatch and clean and jerk as much as some of the top American Superheavyweights do,” she said. “She was also a 2008 Olympian and definitely an inspiration to me.”
Bussard said her current coach Henry Myers is within her tops five and last but not least is Henry Brower.
“He is the guy that I’ve trained with at the Savannah gym and he is a 10 national champion who has been on numerous World teams and placed in top competitions,” she said about Brower.
