Hinesville City Councilman Kenneth Shaw has earned certificates of recognition and achievement from the Georgia Municipal Training Institute.
He received them during the Georgia Municipal Association's annual Mayors Day Conference in Atlanta on Jan. 27.
The institute, a cooperative effort of GMA and the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government, provides a nationally recognized series of training opportunities for elected city officials. To get a certificate of recognition, a city official must complete a minimum of 42 credits. The certificate of achievement requires 72 units of credit. The training consists of a series of 24 six-unit courses.
"This is an outstanding achievement," GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon said. "We commend Councilmember Shaw for this accomplishment and for the dedication he's shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official."
Shaw represents District 5 on the council. He has been on the council since 2001.
