The American Military Retirees Association has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Brittany Butler of Hinesville. Butler was the valedictorian at Liberty County High School and plans to attend Berry College in Mount Berry this fall to study biology.
In 2009, through the Sergeant Major Douglas R. Drum Memorial Scholarship program, AMRA awarded  scholarships totaling $35,000 to AMRA members, their spouses, dependent children or grandchildren for undergraduate study at two- or four-year accredited, degree-granting institutions.  Scholarship recipients must be sponsored by an AMRA member.
The 2010 scholarship information package will be available from AMRA national headquarters by Dec.1 or online at the AMRA Web site, www.amra1973.org.
