Locals grandson is Naval Academy Prep graduate

Justin Adams of Lyons graduated from the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I., on June 4. Of 272 midshipmen candidates, he was one of 10 named to the superintendent’s list, which requires students to maintain a minimum grade point average of a 3.75.
At an honors recognition ceremony, Adams was named most valuable player for the school’s baseball team. He received an engraved watch. Adams also was selected by his classmates as his platoon’s squad leader for the last marking period.
After receiving a recommendation from the Naval Academy Preparatory School and a congressional appointment from Congressman John Barrow, Adams will report to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on June 29 to begin his plebe summer training program. The official indoctrination swearing-in ceremony for the class of 2014 will be on July 1. It will be broadcast cast on the Naval Academy website, www.usna.edu.
Adams is the son of Alan and Tracy Adams of Lyons; and the grandson of John and Faye Adams of Lyons, and Betty NeeSmith of Lyons, and Kermit and Joyce NeeSmith of Hinesville. He is a 2009 graduate of Toombs County High School.
