WEST POINT, N.Y. — Cadet Kevin Richard Smith, son of Neal and Debbie Smith of Midway, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy on May 26.
Smith graduated from Liberty County High School in 2003.
While at West Point, he concentrated studies in leadership with honors and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation. Smith has been assigned to the Infantry Corps and will complete his officer basic course at Fort Benning.
The mission of the U.S. Military Academy is to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of duty, honor, country; professional growth throughout a career as an officer in the U.S. Army and a lifetime of selfless service to the nation.

Two young people from Liberty County have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
• Air Force Airman Kenisha E. Ward is the daughter of Griselda Ward of Hinesville. and a 2006 graduate of Liberty County High School.
• Air Force Airman Antwon R. Adams is the grandson of Thelma Fleming of Midway and a 2005 LCHS graduate.
During the six weeks of training, the airmen studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship and field training exercises.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
