It's time for a 20-minute holiday makeover

It is almost that time again!
Remember when you were a kid and it seemed like an eternity from one Christmas to another. The days and months seemed to go on and on. Well, now that I am in my fifties, it seems like time is on a fast track. I feel like I just put the holiday decorations away. You probably feel the same way. You know what we need before the holidays get here?  We need a 20-minute holiday makeover ... for our community that is.
We are inviting you to take just 20 minutes sometime during Nov. 10-18 to spruce up your yard, street, nearby frontage on a local highway, school campus and your workplace to get ready for the holidays.
I know everybody is busy, but let’s face it, as the holidays get closer, you will be even busier. Now is the time to take a few minutes to pick up any litter or other debris that has blown into your yard or is along the streets in your neighborhood.
It is a perfect time to do certain types of pruning or planting needed for this time of year. Just go outside of your home or workplace and see what needs to be done. Whether it is minor things like picking up a little litter, or more involved projects such as removing junk like an old car that no longer runs, do it now. Even if it is a bigger task, it won’t take long if you round up family, neighbors or co-workers to pitch in.
Sometimes we just need to take a look around us with someone else’s eyes. So take just a minute and imagine what our community looks like to a family relative coming to celebrate Thanksgiving with you. What does it look like to out-of-towners passing through on their way to another location? What will your business look like on television when they film the Christmas Parade in a few weeks? What will your business look like to Christmas shoppers? What do our streets and highways look like as guests travel down them?  How does your school campus look to visitors?  Outward appearances do matter for homes and businesses as well as people.  Liberty County is who we are. So does your neighborhood look the way you want people to see it. If not, then take 20!
If all 60,000 of us in Liberty County would just take 20 minutes, occasionally, we would have the prettiest county in the state. We ought to. I hope you are really thinking about this. Twenty minutes is not much of a commitment. We all have 20 minutes sometime in a week.
Call me at 368 4888 if you need extra garbage bags, extra garbage pickup or even pickup of a junk vehicle. Let’s shape things up before the holidays.
By the way, if you get a group of neighbors or coworkers together for a mini-project, take some photos and send them and information about your effort. I would like to share some of the events. Email your ‘makeover’ information and/or photos to klcb@libertycountyga.com or klcb@yahoo.com
We all feel so good after a personal makeover. Our community will, too.  It will look good, too. So take 20!
