Time again to give a “shout out” to local businesses who keep their places beautiful to promote good business. Or to put it in Keep Liberty Beautiful-speak: It is time again for nominations for the quarterly Win-dex Business Recognition Awards.
These quarterly nominations will be accepted through Dec. 31st. This awards program is our way of recognizing attractive businesses in our community. The owners and managers of these businesses have figured out that looking good is good business. Now, tell the truth. If you have the choice between doing business with a nicely landscaped and well-maintained store or one that has a run down and junky exterior, which one would you choose?
An attractive business brings in more customers. It also helps to create a positive work environment for those who are employed there. And attractive — and successful —businesses “attract” more new businesses to our community because they make our whole community look good. More businesses and more successful businesses mean more good jobs and a healthier economy for our community. Businesses that make this extra effort are doing all of us a favor in Liberty County because their efforts make our community more attractive in all these ways. So let’s give them the credit they are due by nominating them for these awards.
The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce and Keep Liberty Beautiful sponsor the awards to recognize local businesses that make that extra effort to keep their structure/storefront attractive and inviting. We call these awards the Win-dex Awards because we thought that we should recognize those businesses that are so clean, so attractive, so litter-free that they would have a “streak-free shine.”
Each quarter we select two winners — a large and a small business. So do not think that a “mom and pop” operation won’t have a chance. Every business can keep its exterior or storefront neat, and their landscape attractive, no matter what their size or budget. There are actually many businesses in our county who fit the bill, but the first step is that someone must nominate them. Why not you?
Don’t hesitate if you want to nominate your own business, or the business that employs you. Our current third-quarter winners are Liberty Glass Company and Parker’s. Liberty Glass is an attractive business on U.S. Highway 84. The Parker’s store specifically mentioned in the nomination was the one on the curve on Highway 84 in Flemington, but don’t all the Parker’s Convenience Stores look attractive and nicely landscaped? Greg Parker and his staff go the extra mile to make their locations stand out.
All of the properties recognized this year have made a sincere commitment to keep their locations attractive. These were excellent choices for these awards! But there were also many other fantastic nominees, so if you have nominated a business that has not won yet, don’t give up! Nominate them again!
Forms are available at my office at Environmental Health, or at the local Liberty County Chamber of Commerce office (368 4445) on Oglethorpe Highway. You can also e-mail me at klcb@libertycountyga.com for a form.
The completed form can be mailed to P.O. Box 829, Hinesville, GA 31310, or faxed to 368-4777. If you wish, you can e-mail your information directly. Just include all of the information requested.
Remember, nominating a business is a crucial part of the judging of the awards. Make sure that you fully explain why this business is deserving of this recognition. Your vote counts! Send in your nomination now before you get overwhelmed by holiday activities. At least make sure to send it by Dec. 31.  You will be giving a nice gift for a local business that deserves it. This is your chance to make a local business a little merrier!
