Connect Savannah is thrilled to announce the No Control Festival Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Star Laundry. It starts at 11 a.m., and goes on all day and night.

Check out this band lineup: Cusses, The Shaniqua Brown, Today the Moon Tomorrow the Sun, KidSyc@Brandywine, Twin Tigers, Manray, Niche, Baby Baby, Triathalon, Gun Party, Hey Rocco and yet another to be announced.

It'll be an all ages event, with local visual artists, skate ramps and groovy nighttime DJ-ing from the Floor Flexers.

"We want to do some live and hanging art, food, skate, anything creative and kid friendly as well," says Cusses vocalist Angel Bond. Her band is the No Control braintrust - it was their idea - and they're calling it their official album release party (although Cusses, which is the band's first full-length, will be available at the Jan. 27 Cusses/Triathlon show at the Jinx).

Noise alert

Just as The Royal Noise was getting to be one of Savannah's coolest live bands, guitarist Johan Harvey - founder of the jazz/funk instrumental quartet - up and relocated to Philadelphia.

Ah, but not before he and the band, supported by a Kickstarter fundraising effort, cut a bunch of tunes at Elevated Basement. The release of the album, Keep on Moving, will be celebrated with shows Jan. 26 (Huc-a-Poos). Jan. 27 (Live Wire) and Jan. 28 (Congress Street Social Club).

In an e-mail from Philly, Harvey told me this: "Our goal was to capture the organic, improvisational, high voltage nature of our band, and I truly believe we succeeded. Heavy funk grooves, edgy jazz and southern heat packed into eight original compositions."

The Royal Noise, Harvey pointed out, played 120 shows in 2011. And it's not over yet. "While the band is no longer a local Savannah act, we are already making solid plans to continue performing regionally, up and down the east coast, meeting between Philly and Savannah," he said.

"At this point we're talking about performing a couple of times a month, in cities like Charlotte, Asheville, Richmond, and of course Philly. The Internet allows us to collaborate easily and we're already hashing out tunes online for another album down the line."
