TYBEE ISLAND – Swashbucklers of all ages will converge for the 8th Annual Tybee Island Pirate Festival on this week.

The fun runs Thursday-SundayOctober 4-7, 2012. Every Columbus Day weekend, Tybee Island transforms into a lively pirate village, celebrating the rich seafaring history that defines the Georgia coast with live music, children’s activities and a Pirate Victory Parade.

Mötley Crüe lead singer Vince Neil will be the festival headliner at a live concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. Best known for his work on legendary Mötley Crüe albums like Shout at the Devil and Girls, Girls, Girls, Neil will perform a variety of Mötley Crüe hits. Mötley Crüe has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide.

From live entertainment on Friday night by the Eric Culbertson Band and Jimmy Buffet cover band A1A to a concert by Vince Neil on Saturday night, the festival will feature a range of musical artists. Space will be limited at evening concerts, so arrive early to hear your favorite performers.

Additional highlights for the Pirate fest include The Pirate Victory Parade, Scallywags Costume Contest, Little Matey’s Cove, Thieves’ Market and the new Landshark’s Mugs of Mutiny Tavern with live music. The festivities kick off with the coronation at the king and queen at the Buccaneer Ball at The Crab Shack on Thursday.

“The Tybee Island Pirate Festival offers plenty of world-class entertainment and family-friendly activities at one of the liveliest celebrations along the coast,” said Lindsay Fruchtl, director of marketing for the Tybee Island Tourism Council. “We invite visitors and locals to get in touch with their inner pirate and escape the ordinary throughout the Columbus Day weekend.”

Events will be at the South Beach parking lot on Tybrisa Street.

Weekend passes are $22. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge. Passes may be purchased in advance at www.tybeepiratefest.com.
