Health fair offers aerobics sampling
Weekly FMWR briefing for Aug. 19-25

Sample various aerobic styles taught by certified instructors at the Aerobic-Thon and Wellness Fair at 9 a.m. Saturday at Newman Fitness Center. There’s no charge.

Demonstrations will include kick-boxing, step, zumba, line-dancing and more. The health fair features assessments, nutritional information and screenings.

Stewart Bowling Center is celebrating National Crackers Over Keyboard Day with special prices from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 28. The center’s famous grilled chicken salad at the Corner Grill is only $6, including crackers.

Golf 4 Life

A free Golf 4 Life clinic will be from 9-10 a.m. Aug. 31 at Hunter Golf Course. 

The clinic is one of a series at which beginners can learn the basics, while novice golfers improve their game.

New library hours

Fort Stewart's George P. Hays Library will be open on the following days and hours, effective Sept. 2: closed on Fridays and Sundays; open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays; open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on Thursdays; and open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Fitness camp for youth

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, and Youth Sports is offering a way to stay trim and fit.

Its “Get Fit … Be Strong” Boot Camp, will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday starting Sept. 3 at the Youth Sports Baseball Complex.

It’s free for CYSS-registered youth (ages 11-17). Parents/guardians also are encouraged to participate. Registration runs to Sept. 3. The program will continue until Sept. 26.

Top of the Rock Run

Registration is under way for the Top of the Rock 5K & 10K Run for Resiliency, which will start at 8 a.m. Sept. 7 between Newman Fitness Center and Quick Track.

Trophies will be awarded to the top 5k and 10k male and female finishers, the top two finishers in each of 10 age categories and the top two team finishers. Participants will receive T-shirts.

Cost to register early is $20. Day-of-race registration costs $25. Race is open to all DoD cardholders. Team pre-registration ends Sept. 4 and individual pre-registration ends Sept. 5. Sign up at Stewart Sports Office or Hunter’s Tominac Fitness Center.

Bridal Showcase

A Bridal Showcase will be from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Club Stewart Ballroom.

Area businesses and wedding experts will be there. Attendees will receive gift bags and passport that could make them eligible to win a $500 wedding reception certificate. Admission will be $10 per person for active duty and $13 for others. The showcase is open to the public.

Soldier Show

The U.S. Army Soldier Show, a 75-minute song-and-dance production, will be presented at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 and 8 at Newman Fitness Center.

Stewart Soldier SPC Millie Sneed is a featured vocalist. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. It is free and and the public is welcome.

 

Winery trip

You may get to stomp some grapes and taste the fruits of your labor during a Leisure Travel Office trip to the Meinhardt Vineyards & Winery near Statesboro on Sept. 14. The trip begins at 11 a.m.

Registration continues until Sept. 7. The cost is $25. Dinner, at a restaurant, will be at participants’ expense.

Bass tournament

Early registration is under way for a Bass Tournament scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 28 at Metz Pond.

Registration until Aug. 31 costs $20 for soldiers, retirees and their family members, and all youth (15 years old and younger); and $35 for civilians. The fees increase by $5 to register from Sept. 1-27 and by $10 on day of the tourney.
