Golf scramble

Gather up your golfing buddies for the Hunter Garrison Commander’s scramble at Hunter Golf Course Friday.

Play begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The $40 per person entry fee includes greens and cart fees, range balls and light lunch.

Hunter pool

Chatham County Schools open Aug. 12. Effective on that date, the Hunter outdoor pool will open Saturdays and Sundays only from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. until the day after Labor Day, Sept. 2, when it will close for the season. For more information, call 315-5786.

Play at Hunter Golf Course will be limited to the front or back nine holes for aeration of the greens Aug. 12-13 if weather permits.

Flag football

Units interested in playing in the 2013 Unit Level Flag Football Season at Hunter beginning in September should submit a 20-member roster to Squires Sports Complex no later than Aug. 16.

Adventure Landing trip

Join Leisure Travel at the largest family entertainment center in northeast Florida, the Adventure Landing and Shipwreck Island Waterpark, on Aug. 17. Registration is open until Aug. 9.

The cost is $55 per person and includes transportation and access to the water park and three other attractions (speedway go-karts, laser tag in multi-level arena, miniature golf, roller coaster or frog hopper rides) at Jacksonville Beach.

Girls on the Greens

Learn golf in a comfortable atmosphere during a Girls on the Greens clinic from 10 a.m.-noon Aug. 17 at Taylors Creek Golf Course. Participants are asked to register by Aug. 16.

Learn the basics of swings, rules, terminology and etiquette. Emphasis will be on full and approach shots.

Ten-Miler qualifier

Represent the 3rd ID in the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, D.C., Oct. 20 by being one of the top three men or top women in a qualifier race on Donovan Field.

Only active duty may qualify, but family members are welcome to run.

The qualifier begins at 5 a.m. Aug. 17. Runners can register from 4-4:45 a.m. at the field, or at the Sports Office, 767-8238, to sign up in advance.

 

Wellness fair, aerobics

Sample various aerobic classes, taught by certified instructors, beginning at 9 a.m. Aug. 24 at Newman Fitness Center. There’s no charge.

Demonstrations will include kick-boxing, step, zumba, line-dancing and more. The health fair will feature fitness assessments, nutritional information and health screenings.

Bridal Showcase

An elegant Bridal Showcase to help plan and prepare for that special day will be presented by Club Stewart and Club Stewart Catering on Sept. 7.

A variety of businesses and experts will set up booths in the ballroom from 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Attendees will receive gift bags and passports. Having the passport stamped by each of vendor will make the passport holder eligible to win one of two $500 wedding reception certificates.

Admission is $10 per person for active duty and $13 per person for others. The showcase is open to the public.
