SAVANNAH — The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon will be keeping Savannah on its tour schedule through 2016.

Marathon organizers and Savannah tourism officials announced a three-year extension of their contract agreement Wednesday. Last month they held the second road race in a three-year deal, which guaranteed one more marathon in 2013.

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon combines running with a rock-concert vibe that includes cheerleaders and live bands stationed all along the course. Savannah officials have touted the event as one of the city's biggest tourism draws after its sprawling St. Patrick's Day celebration.

Visit Savannah, the city's tourism bureau, say the debut marathon here in 2011 brought in 19,000 runners for an estimated economic impact of $32 million. More than 17,000 runners took part in the second race.
