New hours for Rocky's Warrior Zone has the club open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-9 p.m.

 

Coaches needed

Volunteers volleyball coaches are needed a Child, Youth and School Services clinic on Fort Stewart July 15-19 from 9 a.m.-noon.

If interested, visit the Youth Sports Office in the Youth Sports & Fitness Center on Austin Road and ask for a volunteer packet.

Girls on the Greens

A free clinic from 10 a.m.-noon June 29 at Taylors Creek Golf Course is for women who want to start playing or improve their games. Register by June 28.

Participants learn swing and putting mechanics, some of the rules and club regulations.

Dinner and bowling

A family dinner and bowling discount night, June 30 from 3-8 p.m. at Stewart Bowling Center is for those who like to have fun. $30 gets your family of five 10 total games bowling, five shoe rentals and dinner.

Eco-exploration tour

Register by July 1 for a Leisure Travel trip into coast marshlands July 20.

The two to three hour cruise into Turners Creek includes narration of the area's history, ecology and relationship of various parts of the ecosystem.

Sign up at Leisure Travel Office in the PX Furniture Mall on Stewart or building 1286 at Hunter. The cost of $40 per person (ages 13 and older) or $35 per person (ages 3-12). For more information, call 767-2841 on Stewart or 315-3674 on Hunter.

 

Furlough closures

Effective July 8, two of the Community Recreation Division activities at Fort Stewart will close one day per week due to furloughs. The Hays Library will close on Fridays and Pass and Permit will close on Tuesdays.

 

Golf scramble

Register by July 10 for the Hunter Garrison Commander’s Golf Scramble at Hunter Golf Course on July 12. Play will begin at 1 p.m.

The $40 per person entry fee includes greens, cart, range balls and light lunch.

Indoor triathlons

Men and women are invited to compete in Newman Fitness Center’s first Mini Indoor Triathlon July 22-24. Hunter's Tominac Fitness Center will have its first triathlon July 22-26.

There’s no charge. The top male and top female contestants will win prizes.

Timed events will be 10 minutes for swimming and treadmill run, plus 20 minutes on a stationary bike. It is open to all military ID cardholders 17 and older.

Competitors are asked to register by July 22. Call 767-3031 on Stewart and 315-5078 on Hunter for a time to compete or for additional details.

 

Back to school

A Back to School Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 24 at Club Stewart is an opportunity to talk to DoDEA, local public, private, post-secondary school and home schooling representatives.

There is no charge.

On- and off-post child and family agencies provide information, to include after school care options. Fort Stewart Exchange will also show school uniforms and youth fashions.

Schools military registration

Military families can register school age children for 2013-14 school year in Liberty County school from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on July 25 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the schools. The day is to help military families, especially new ones, transition into the school system. The schools register students, give school and district information, provide class assignments and answer school-related questions.

Needed are birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization records, medical screening, proof of residence, and previous report cards. For more information and a list of required documents, call School Liaison at 767-6533.

 

Disney Junior

Join Leisure Travel for a trip to Savannah's Johnny Mercer Theater for Disney's brand new Junior Live production tour at 7 p.m. July 26. Patrons should register by July 22.

The performance features characters from Disney Junior's series, Sofia the First and Jake and the Never Land Pirates. It is filled with new music, effects, surprises and action that will have your family singing. The cost is $25 per person 2 and older.

Army Ten-Miler

Win the honor of representing the 3rd ID in the Army Ten-Miler in Washington Oct. 20 by being one of the top three men or top three women finishers in a qualifier race on Fort Stewart's Donovan Field Aug. 17.

Only active duty may qualify, but family members are welcome to run.

The qualifier begins at 5 a.m. Runners can register from 4-4:45 a.m. Sign up earlier by calling the Sports Office at 767-8238.
