FORT STEWART, Ga. – The 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, conducted convoy life fire training, Sept. 10-21, during the 4th IBCT “Vanguard” Focus field training exercise on Fort Stewart, Ga.

The training provided soldiers an opportunity to become familiarized with MaxxPRO Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicles, which are commonly used in deployed locations. The vehicles are generally equipped with crew-served weapon systems such as .50 caliber and M240B machine guns and are typically used in convoy settings for supply transport operations.

Soldiers in the distribution platoon for Company A, 703rd BSB, had the opportunity to implement and develop their maneuverability skills with the MaxxPROs and they learned the importance of developing driving teams who will train for and work together during future missions.

“Teamwork was a major part of our training,” said Sgt. Cherryann Gibbons, a squad leader with Company A, 703rd BSB. “We had to learn how to communicate [with the radios] and understand how each other operate.”

Second Lt. Domonick Sylve, the distribution platoon leader for Company A., 703rd BSB, and training coordinator, said he was proud his soldiers successfully completed their missions.

“There are a lot of moving pieces involved with operating these vehicles and it was great to see the platoon take on the training challenge and fully engage [themselves] in learning every component to gain the most knowledge they could,” Sylve said.

Throughout the two-week exercise, soldiers with Company A and the 703rd field support companies that are attached to other battalions in 4th IBCT, were able to complete convoy live fire training in preparation for a rotation to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La., slated for November.
