Soldier's body recovered from ocean

The body of a 3rd Infantry Division soldier who went missing in the Atlantic off St. Simons Island’s Sunday evening was recovered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Staff Sgt Calvin Leblanc was found near a pier on the island. He went missing Sunday evening while swimming with his family near East Beach. Glynn County law enforcement assisted with the recovery and the county’s coroner pronounced Staff Sgt. Leblanc dead at 9:45 p.m.

"Third Infantry Division expresses its deepest condolences to the family members of Staff Sgt. Leblanc.  Chaplain support and family assistance have been extended to the soldier’s family during this time," a news release from Fort  Stewart's Public Affairs Office said.
