Dear Editor:
 
I lost a dear friend and pet. I know that some feel like it is just a dog, but he was really part of our family. I don’t know if a obituary notice for pets is an option for any newspaper or has ever been even thought of. If there is such a consideration, please print my tribute.

A Tribute to my Loving Friend Jake
He lived in his home with
his beds and a box full of every toy,
a never ending dish of food and
a cupboard full of treats that filled
him with joy.
 
And now I sit here today with such
a heavy heart
I still hear the shot that tore
me apart.
 
My friend was taken from me,
my dear loving Jake
And the reason is hard for me
to partake
 
I was supposed to protect him
from disease and harm
I did that so why did he die
the answer will cause such alarm
 
I took him out to relieve
himself outside
and not 10 yards away he was shot
then he walked almost to me with his last
breath he died
 
He was not even safe in his own yard
and my neighbor took his life with
a fatal shot
The man that did this says he was
protecting his chickens from a white dog
but my brown and white friend is what he got
 
In all my sadness I really pray that
justice will be done
Because what was taken was not
my dog but a friend that was like my son.
