Column on education bears repeating

Editor, I was very glad to see Jimmy Currier’s article in the Friday edition headlined, “Keep up your grades,” advising young people to make sure they get a good education.
Too many kids seem to think they can go far with just sports as their main life goal, and so often that road runs out far sooner than they think.
Most people who try to make a living playing sports — just like the hundreds of kids who try to break into show business, whether through acting or music — don’t get very far.
With sports there is also the additional problem of injuries sidelining those who do make it. Either way, it only makes sense to have a good educational background to prepare one for the rest of life.
Mr. Currier’s article was timely and bears repeating.
