Editor, The Hinesville Police Department will sponsor National Night Out on Aug. 4. This national event is designed to do the following:
• Heighten crime and drug awareness
• Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
• Generate support for, and participation in, local crime programs.
In 2005 and 2006, Hinesville was selected as a national award winner for its outstanding participation in the 22nd and 23rd annual National Night Out crime, drug and violence prevention program.
In 2005, the event had an attendance of more than 1,000 people in two hours and in 2006 the event had an attendance of more than 800 people.
This event involves residents, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local law officials.
The Hinesville Police Department will be providing information on the Neighborhood Watch program, Explorers program, Citizens Academy program and gang awareness.
Other agencies to include Fort Stewart will be participating in the event along. There will also be DNA testing for children, sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse, Liberty.
We are asking all agencies that service the community as well as educators to participate in this effort.
