Polititian gives thanks

Editor, I’m weeks away from completing my first year as your commissioner and while my learning curve has yet to bend, it’s a pleasure to serve as District 5 representative.
A couple of months ago I completed all of my mandatory training and with these certifications I will be better able to serve you all. As your commissioner I have tried my best to work with all elected officials inside and outside  of my district. I want to thank the mayors and council members of Hinesville, Walthourville and Allenhurst for meeting with me to discuss the issues and concerns of their cities and I want to thank the citizens in the unincorporated areas of my district (McIntosh, Holmestown, and Longreach) for their continued support as well (Holmestown, I got your back and together we will get there).
I want to thank Chairman McIver for his wisdom (John is as cool as the other side of the pillow). I want to thank Commissioners Stevens, Lovette, Thrift, Bowen and Walden for allowing me to be a part of the team and showing me the ropes (believe it or not, Mr. Ripley, one can learn a lot sitting between Pat and Eddie). Thanks to Joey Brown and Bob Sprinkle for answering the same questions different ways and to Debbie Whitehurst and Evelyn Johnson (the two ladies that keep me on track). Thanks to Tammy Bunting and Lamar Tillman for giving me lessons in SPLOST and to Sonny, Alyssa and the others at LCPC for doing all the “leg work.”
A special thanks to Friends of Gary Gilliard. FOGG is comprised of people from all walks of life that I depend on in so many ways and I thank them for allowing me to bounce things off them from time to time (especially the mechanic, the contractor, the bail bondsman, the club owner, the realtor, the grumpy old man, the church lady and a few legal eagles).
And last but not least thanks to my wife (Felecia) and my family (The Home Team) for supporting me in everything I do and try to do. Although I believe I can better serve you in 2010, I’m still going to need your support and your prayers. Please continue to pray that (popularity aside) I make the right decisions for you and this county.

Happy Holidays!
Gary Gilliard
