Support Long County Alumni Association

Editor, If you graduated from high school in Long County you may not know it, but you are part of a nonprofit organization that has been doing a lot of good things for the students of Long County High School. That organization is the Long County High School Alumni Association, and there are no dues, no membership cards and no obligations — unless you would like to help!
For the past seven years, a group of alumni have organized a yearly fundraiser. Each year, organizers, volunteers and contributors put together an event to raise money for the Long County Alumni Association’s athletic scholarship fund. To date, 28 scholarships, totaling $14,000, have been awarded to local graduating senior athletes. Along with the scholarships, the alumni have donated more than $7,800 to projects on campus, which make the school safer and more enjoyable for students.
We are always looking for more support. If you would like to take part in what the alumni association is doing, call one of the numbers listed at the end of this letter.
The yearly fundraiser is a golf tournament, but we are always open to new ideas.
This year’s tournament will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. Prizes will be awarded for closest to pin on all par 3 holes and the longest drive, and cash awards will be given to the first- and second-place teams in two flights. The format for the tournament is a two-man scramble. The entry fee is $60 per player. After the golf tournament, we will have a barbecue dinner for players and volunteers. All players will receive door prizes.
Anyone who wants to play, volunteer, donate (door prizes or money) or sponsor a hole for $100 can call 294-7106, 294-6499 or 294-1907.
Contribution checks can be made payable to: Long Co. Alumni Association and mailed to P.O. Box 871, Ludowici, GA 31316.
