Support Y-On Wheels

Editor, In a society where everyone thinks about getting ahead and bettering themselves, it is remarkable that Coastal Georgia’s YMCA has an effort like its Y-On Wheels Outreach program.
This program allows remote, at-risk, disadvantaged children an opportunity to attend camp in their own yards. The team from the YMCA provides children with hours of creative activities that stimulate their minds and exercise their bodies. The staff works to build the children’s esteem and to teach, through games and activities, principles and values that will help them become productive role models.
The program offers children, who ordinarily might not have a chance, a fun way to experience summer camp. It also employs disadvantaged teens through a partnership with the Liberty County Department of Family and Children Services.
Y-On Wheels currently employs one of the teens who previously benefited from the program. This employment practice teaches the children an important life lesson: if someone does good for you, then you pay it forward and do good for someone else.
Some of the 2007 sites that have benefited from the program are Gabriel’s House Foster Home, Raintree Apartments, Pineland Apartments, Mission Ridge Apartments, and areas in Fleming, Riceboro and Midway. A total of 392 children’s lives were touched 2.4 times this summer with activities which includes swimming, dodge ball, arts and crafts and more.
For those supporters who do not have the time to help disadvantaged children, making a donation to this program is a wonderful solution. Your donations would ensure we can continue to make a difference to a group of young people who need the extra attention.
Help make a difference in their lives, families, and in our communities. Contact the Coastal Georgia’s YMCA via email at or call  (912) 312-1054.
