Thanks to American Legion for helping

Editor, My name is Kenneth Williams and I live in Quakertown, Pa. I have a son, S/Sgt. Bryon Williams, who lives in Richmond Hill, but is now stationed in Afghanistan with Delta Co. 3/17 Cav.
On Aug. 30, Corp. Tim Saia of the Richmond Hill Police Department contacted me and asked me if I could contact my son and inform him that his yard was way out of hand and needed to be taken care of. He reported to me that a neighbor had complained the grass in back was more than 5 feet high and snakes were coming out from under the fence.
After investigating, I found out that the person who was supposed to mow my son’s yard had been sent to Iraq and wasn’t able to contact my son.
Since I live in Pennsylvania, I didn’t know anyone in the Richmond Hill area to turn to, but I do belong to the American Legion and I thought maybe some of the members may be lawn workers or may own a company that does yard work and landscaping.
I called Post 168 in Hinesville and got Post Commander Roy Owens. I told him my problem and his first remark was, “I will take care of it.”
On Saturday, Sept. 4, Cmdr. Owens and a crew of Legion members brought two pickup trucks and all the equipment needed to get my son’s yard in compliance. They traveled to Richmond Hill and mowed for four hours. On Monday, Sept. 6, Labor Day, I got a call from Cmdr. Owens telling me that the yard had been taken care of and Post 168 would be keeping an eye on my son’s yard until he comes home in November.
I would like to salute Post 168 of the American Legion and give a big thumbs-up to Cmdr. Roy Owens. Thank you for a job well done.
