Team Hinesville needs sponsors

 

Team Hinesville’s weightlifting team is seeking donations for upcoming trips to the Pan-Am 17U Championship and the Quebec Junior Championship.

World-ranked Olympic weightlifter Jenna Bussard, coach of Team Hinesville, said participants pay their own expenses so she is always eager to accept donations to help Team Hinesville. If you would like to make a donation, call her at 429-0931.

It’s time for the 24th annual Hinesville/ Fort Stewart Shrine Club Golf Tournament. The 18-hole, four-person scramble is at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Cherokee Rose Country Club.

Annual Shawnee McGowan Memorial Junior Rodeo

The fourth annual Shawnee McGowan Memorial Junior Rodeo will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the N.C. Ranch in Ludowici. There will be a bicycle giveaway, food, prizes, games and a toy scramble. For more information, call 545-9542.

 

Soccer registration

 

 

The YMCA is registering for its fall soccer program. Children ages 3-15 are eligible. Practice begins Saturday, Sept. 12. Registration ends when the teams are full. Volunteer coaches are needed. For more information, call Richard Somerville at 368-9622.

 

After-school program

 

The St. James Center is accepting registration for its free after-school program, which includes homework assistance for children enrolled in kindergarten-sixth grade. First annual Ricefest
Golf Tournament

 

Registration is open for the first annual Ricefest Golf Tournament, scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Ricefields Golf Course on Hampton Island Preserve. Fees are $300 per team or $75 per individual, which includes two beverages. Mulligans cost $5 for two. Prizes will be awarded for the closest to the pin, longest drive and a hole-in-one. Hinesville Hurricanes football team seeks help with costs

 

The Hinesville Hurricanes semi-pro football team has made the Southern Conference playoffs and will head to Columbia, S.C., Saturday to play in the Southern Conference title game. The team is looking for sponsors to help with transportation and fees for the game. Anyone interested in assisting the hometown squad can call coach James Sharp at 269-0830.

 

GSU football tickets on sale

 

Single game tickets for the Georgia Southern University football season are on sale. The Eagles play five regular season games at Paulson Stadium.

Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by calling the GSU ticket office at 800-GSU-WINS or online at www.GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com. Youth tickets for each home game are also on sale for $10 each (ages 3-12). In addition to single-game tickets, season ticket packages also are available.

 

Saturday youth bowling

 

The Fort Stewart youth bowling will register bowlers, ages 3-18, from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at Marne Lanes. You must register that day to reserve your place on a team. The league will start Sept. 26 at 9:30 a.m. Call Jeff Eastlake at 369-8384 or Marne Lanes at 767-4866 for more information.

 

Fire dept. golf tourney

 

The first annual Hinesville Fire Department MDA Golf Tournament will be Sept. 26 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. It will be a scramble tournament with an entry fee of $50 per player. Monday mixed bowling

Bridge run is Dec. 5

 

The Savannah River Bridge Run is set for Dec. 5

Participants can register online at www.active.com.
The entry fee is $28 for anyone who signs up before Oct. 31, and $30 for anyone who registers between Nov. 1-Dec. 3.

Runners can pick up their registration packets Friday, Dec. 4, inside the Savannah Civic Center. Participants can register during packet pick-up for $35. The entry fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Participants cannot register on the day of the race.

The course spans Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge, which is 1.4-miles long and has a 5.5 percent incline. It is 196 feet above the Savannah River.

Punt, Pass and Kick contest set for Sept. 19

 

The Department of the Army Child, Youth and School Services will sponsor the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Fort Stewart Youth Services football field on Green Street. Waiver and release of liability forms may be picked up and turned in at Jordan Youth Gym, building 608, on West Sixth Street and Bryan Village Youth Center, building 7338, on Austin Road. Last-minute registrations will be taken from 9-9:45 a.m. on the day of competition. Parents must provide proof of their child’s age.

The contest is open to all children in the community, boys and girls, ages 8-15. The competition is free. The top five first-place winners in the boys and girls age groups among all sectional winners will advance to the team championship, which will be held at Atlanta’s Georgia Dome in November.
