Touchdown Club seeks sponsors for golf tourney

 

Long County’s Touchdown Club is seeking sponsors and donations for its upcoming fifth Annual Long County Touchdown Club Golf Tournament.

Hole sponsorships are $100. The group also needs monetary or gift donations for door prizes.

The tournament will be a four-person captain’s scramble. Fees are $50 per person. A "cheaters combo" is available for an additional $10, which includes one mulligan, one shot from the ladies tee and one string of 10 feet for placing a shot closer to a hole.

The tournament is May 15 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club. Proceeds benefit the Long County High School varsity football team. For more information, call Bryan Murphy at 370-2470 or Kyle Wilson at 530-9443.

‘Hank’ White scholarship

The deadline for applications to receive Henry "Hank" White Memorial scholarships is April 30.

Student applications: Graduating seniors of Bradwell Institute or Liberty County High School who are planning to attend an accredited college or university may apply for a $1,000 scholarship. Applications are available at the schools’ guidance offices. Two letters of recommendation and an essay must be turned in with the completed application.

Community scholarships: Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to Liberty County residents who are currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college or university. Applications are available at the First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and the VFW Post on Highway 196. Two letters of recommendation and an essay must be turned in with the completed application.

Active Duty Military scholarship: One scholarship will be awarded to an active duty soldier stationed at Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield who is currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college or university. Applications are available at the SFC Paul R. Smith Army Education Center on Fort Stewart, First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and the VFW Post on Highway 196. Two letters of recommendation and an essay must be turned in with the completed application.

YMCA healthy kids day

 

The Liberty County Armed Services Family YMCA will host its annual healthy kids day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2. The YMCA will also host an open house during the event.

The event is free and will feature healthy snacks, an inflatable water slide, face painting, team impact show, a jump rope contest, an NFL Play 60 recharge challenge, Kid Fit aerobics, an 80-yard dash, a scavenger hunt, a gymnastics exhibition and a fitness boot camp for kids.
