YMCA open house
Liberty County YMCA will host an open house Aug. 28. The community is welcome to try the facilities for free. Joiner fees for new members will be waived that day.
The Y also is organizing weekly Y games. Beginning on Sept. 17, the Y games will offer a team challenge in a variety of sports and activities spread over a month.  Each weekend teams will square off in a tournament for points and rewards. Activities and games include: flag football, wally-ball, basketball, soccer, team relay race and endurance test.
Registration is under way. The deadline to register is Sept. 10. The Y games are open to ages 16 and up.

LCRD youth football, cheer

Registration runs through Friday for youth football and cheerleading at the Liberty County Recreation Department.
The program is for 7- to 12-year-olds. Age is determined as of Sept. 1. Flag football is for 7- to 8-year-olds and tackle football is for 9- to 10- and 11- to 12-.  Weight restrictions apply to the older divisions. The cost is $20 per child. All equipment is provided, except pants for tackle football players.
If there are enough participants, teams will be formed in Midway, Walthourville, Riceboro and Gum Branch.

Soccer
Registration for youth soccer also runs through Friday. It is for ages 4-17, as of Aug. 1. The fee is $20 per child.
Games will be played on weekday evenings at James A. Brown Park, starting in late September.

Fall baseball
Registration for fall baseball and softball runs through Aug. 26. Age divisions are 7-8 machine pitch, 9-10 machine pitch, and 11-12 live pitch leagues. The age cut-off date is next May 1. Games will be played in September and October. The fee is $45 per child.

Keep the books

Youth bowling
Fort Stewart Youth Bowling will register bowlers, 3-18 years, from 9-noon on Sept. 10 at Marne Lanes. You must register then to ensure being placed on a team. Play starts Sept. 24 at 9:30 a.m. Call Jeff Eastlake at 369-8384/977-2015 or Marne Lanes at 767-4866 for more information.

Tuesday bowling

Baseball tryouts
The Chain Baseball Academy is accepting registration for 15U-18U fall baseball and showcase teams. Tryout for the Chain showcase team will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 20, at Chain Field. Tryouts for the Chain fall league team will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 27 at Chain Field. Chain also will sponsor an instructional program for younger age groups. Soccer registration is under way at the Liberty County YMCA for children ages 3-13. Deadline to register is Sept. 17. For more information call 368-9622.

Basketball camp
Basketball fundamental sessions, led by South Georgia Kings founder Jessie Fleming, are from 1-3 p.m. every Sunday at the YMCA. The fee is $15 per session. Fleming is also organizing a new hoops shooting club called the Young Gunz that will meet twice a week to perfect shooting skills. Cat Walk submissions
Bradwell Institute’s “Cat Walk of Fame” features former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tigers coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.
To be eligible, former athletes must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college. To submit names or photos, email them to jmiller@liberty.k12.ga.us or mail them, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope for return, to:
