Heat Check basketball tournament in September

Khari Collins will host a Heat Check basketball tournament Sept. 10-11 at Johnnie Fraiser Park. The tournament is open to children ages 9-13. Food vendors will be on site selling concessions. Teams can register the day of the tournament. For more information, call 318-3097 or 370-2622.

Golf tournament to support 7-year-old with leukemia

A golf tournament to raise funds for Brandon Hellgren, a 7-year-old who has been diagnosed with leukemia, will be Oct. 8 at Cherokee Rose Country Club. The John E. Smiley Jr. “Jay Bird” Memorial Golf Tournament has established Team Brandon to help support Hellgren, the son of Bradwell Institute baseball coach Rhett Hellgren. All proceeds will go to help cover costs associated with Brandon’s care. Entry costs are $50 per player or $200 per team. Hole sponsors also are sought.

Basketball fundamentals camp

Basketball fundamental sessions, led by South Georgia Kings founder Jessie Fleming, are from 1-3 p.m. every Sunday at the YMCA. The fee is $15 per session.
