Scott’s All-Star drug-free

Scott’s All-Stars will host a drug free basketball camp from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., Dec. 11 at the Long County High School gymnasium. The free camp promotes drug-free living and provides exposure to a professional basketball camp to children who may not otherwise have resources to attend. The Liberty County YMCA will host Scott’s All-Stars basketball camp scheduled for Dec. 20-23. The camp is open to ages 5-7 from 9-10:30 a.m. and for ages 8-14 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. For more information, call Richard Somerville at 368-9622.

CYSS

basketball and cheerleading

 

Registration for youth basketball and cheerleading is now under way until all slots are filled. Basketball is open to all CYSS members ages 5-17 (age as of Jan. 1, 2011), and cheerleading is open to all CYSS members ages 6-13 (age as of Dec. 31, 2010).

Tentative age divisions for basketball are 5-6 co-ed, 7-8 co-ed, 9-10 boys, 9-10 girls, 11-12 boys, 11-14 girls, 13-14 boys and 15-17 co-ed. If there are not enough girls to form a league, the girls and boys squads in each age division will be merged.

Age divisions for cheerleading are 6-9 and 10-13. Participants can register at CYSS Parent Central Services, building T-0029. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

For more information on registration requirements, fees, fee waivers, etc., call 767-2312. For more information on sports programs, call the Youth Sports Office at 767-4371 or 767-9270. Volunteers are needed to coach basketball and cheerleading teams. Anyone interested can pick up a volunteer form at Parent Central Services or Jordan Youth Gym (building 608 W. 6th St.). Anyone who hasn’t volunteered to work for CYSS in the past year must fill out a volunteer form and submit to a background check.

Scott’s All-Stars are taking applications for the 2011 season. There are fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys teams. Practice is at 3 p.m. every second weekend (Saturday and Sunday) at the YMCA.
