Gospel sing to aid player with cancer

 

 

There will be a gospel sing today in Glennville to help raise funds for Long County High School football player Josh Berry, who has been diagnosed with leukemia. The event will be held at the Zion Temple Church of Christ, which is located at 413 Jackson Street, in Glennville. All-Stars basketball camp

The Liberty County YMCA will host Scott’s All-Stars basketball camp scheduled for Dec. 20-23. The camp is open to ages 5-7 from 9-10:30 a.m. and for ages 8-14 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. For more information, call Richard Somerville at 368-9622.

 

Dribbling 101

Dribbling practices are led by South Georgia Kings founder Jessie Fleming, from 1-3 p.m. every Sunday at the YMCA. The fee is $10 per session. For more information, call 320-9869 or e-mail jrayfleming@hotmail.com.

 

CYSS basketball and cheerleading

Registration for youth basketball and cheerleading is now under way until all slots are filled. Basketball is open to all CYSS members ages 5-17 (age as of Jan. 1, 2011), and cheerleading is open to all CYSS members ages 6-13 (age as of Dec. 31, 2010).

Tentative age divisions for basketball are 5-6 co-ed, 7-8 co-ed, 9-10 boys, 9-10 girls, 11-12 boys, 11-14 girls, 13-14 boys and 15-17 co-ed. If there are not enough girls to form a league, the girls and boys squads in each age division will be merged.

Age divisions for cheerleading are 6-9 and 10-13. Participants can register at CYSS Parent Central Services, building T-0029. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Volunteers are needed to coach basketball and cheerleading teams. Anyone interested can pick up a volunteer form at Parent Central Services or Jordan Youth Gym (building 608 W. 6th St.). Anyone who hasn’t volunteered to work for CYSS in the past year must fill out a volunteer form and submit to a background check.

 

All-Stars taking applications

Scott’s All-Stars are taking applications for the 2011 season. There are fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade boys’ teams. Practice is at 3 p.m. every second weekend (Saturday and Sunday) at the YMCA.  Community church bowling league

A community church bowling league needs new bowlers. The league meets at 6:45 p.m. each Thursday at Marne Lanes on Fort Stewart. Anyone who attends any church is eligible. Sign-up costs $19-$21 and play costs $8 each Thursday. Call Jeri Vick at 876-4351 or 222-0924.

 

Coastal Georgia Soccer Association registration

The Coastal Georgia Soccer Association is accepting team registrations. The fee for 4U-8U players is $70 to register plus a $36.50 uniform fee, which applies to new 6U and 8U players only. The registration fee for 10U and 14U players is $85, plus $36.50 for a youth uniform or $38.50 for adult sizes.

Association officials plan to start a 14U team in Midway for Fort Stewart and Midway area players. Practices will be in Midway and games will be on weekends in Savannah.

 Cat Walk submissions due

Bradwell Institute is building a “Cat Walk of Fame” featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tiger Coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.

To be eligible for the Cat Walk of Fame, the former athlete must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college. To submit names or photos, e-mail them to jmiller@liberty.k12.ga.us or mail them, along with a self-addressed and stamped envelope for return, to:
