A 9-pin, no-tap bowling tourney

 

A 9-pin, no-tap bowling tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Marne Lanes on Fort Stewart.

It costs $20 per bowler for three games.

Prizes will be awarded for high team series (4 bowlers) doubles high game, individual high game and lowest individual score with the fewest gutter balls.

Biggest Loser
registration open

 

Registration continues until Feb. 4 for the Liberty County YMCA’s new Biggest Loser Challenge.

Three six-member teams will face off to see which one loses the most weight.

The contest runs from Feb. 9 until April 9.

Workouts are set for Mondays and Wednesdays. Challenges are set for Thursdays.

The time slots available are 5:30 a.m., 9:15 am, and 6:30 p.m.

Under-18 participants must have parental permission

The cost is $100 for YMCA members, $120 for non-members. All participants must pass a health history pre-screening. Eligibility will be determined by body-fat percentage

Register for track and field

 

Registration for Fort Stewart youth track and field began Jan. 20, and is open to all CYS members who are between the ages of 7-14 by Dec. 31, 2009.

Six-year-olds may participate provided they turn 7 before next Jan 1. Age groups are 7-8, 10 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under for both boys and girls.

Register between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at CYS, building 443 on Gulick Avenue. CYS is open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays. For more registration information, call 767-2312. For more information on track and field, call 767-4371 or 767-9270.

 

Diamond Club yard sale

 

The Long County Blue Tide Baseball Diamond Club is having a yard sale on Jan. 31 at the Ludowici Bank. All funds will support the baseball team.

Help the baseball team by donating items for the yard sale. You can either drop them off by 8 a.m. on Jan. 31 or before the day of the event, by calling 545-9950.

Soccer: Registration is Feb. 1-March 7, and is open to ages 3-14. After March 7, a late fee will apply. Practice begins the week of March 23.

Tip-off club volunteers

Junior NBA/WNBA Skills Challenge

 

Local youngsters, 9-14, can participate in the Junior NBA/Junior WNBA Skills Challenge. The program provides boys and girls, competing separately, a free opportunity to showcase their skills in shooting, dribbling and passing. The Liberty County YMCA will host the competition at noon Saturday, Feb. 21.

Participants may register the day of the event and must bring a copy of their birth certificate and complete a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.

Champions from the local competition will have the opportunity to advance to 1 of 35 regional competitions across the country in hopes of advancing to the national finals in Orlando, Fla.

Semi-pro football gearing up

 

The Hinesville Hurricanes are getting ready to gear up for the 2009 season and they are looking for former and new players to hit the grid iron. South Georgia Kings hold Boston butt sale

The South Georgia Kings are raising funds for their upcoming YBOA and AAU season. During February, they will be selling tickets for Boston butts for $20 each. Tickets are available at the Coaches Corner Barber Shop and Beauty Salon at 946 E. G. Miles Parkway, suite 105 and Jazzy’s Barber Shop and Beauty Salon at 230 W. Gen. Screven Way.
