Parents meeting for Tide football

There will be a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for parents of student-athletes who want to play football for Long County High School this upcoming season. The meeting is in the high school cafeteria. Coach Ronald Flott will distribute practice schedules, game schedules and practice times. He will discuss team rules and expectations for players and fans. Flott also will discuss fundraisers and the booster club and how important they are to the success of the football program. For more information, call 912-545-2135 ext. 4002.

Halfmoon Marina fishing tourney

The Halfmoon Marina is hosting a trout/bass tournament Saturday. Registration currently is under way and the deadline is 9 a.m. Saturday. Weigh-in is from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Fees are $10 for club members and $20 for non-members. First place will receive $300, second place $200 and third place $100. For more information, call 884-5819.

Lady Panthers softball

The Lady Panthers softball team will begin voluntary conditioning Monday from 8-10 a.m. Workouts will be Monday through Friday at the Lady Panthers’ softball field. Tryouts will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 1. Everyone who participates in conditioning and/or tryouts must have
current school physicals.

golf tournament

The seventh annual Henry “Hank” White Golf Tournament is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Cherokee Rose Golf Club in Hinesville. The tournament format is a four-man scramble, and prizes will be awarded for first through third place, longest drive, longest putt, straight drive and closest to the pin on holes 3 and 17. Participants have a chance to win two new cars for a hole-in-one. The prize for acing No. 3 is a 2011 Ford F-150. A hole-in-one on No. 13 will win a Toyota Tundra or Tacoma Extra Cab.
Additional prizes will be awarded during the awards ceremony, and dinner will be served after the tournament. The entry fee is $200 per team or $50 per person. The registration deadline is July 30. Liberty YMCA

Flag football registration is under way at the Liberty County YMCA for children ages 3-13. The season begins Aug. 13.
In addition, the YMCA is hosting a Zumba-thon from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday. The fee is $10, and the funds will benefit the YMCA’s priceless gifts campaign, which provides scholarships for low-income families in the community.
Also, the Y will host a community open house from 1-5 p.m. July 31. New memberships will be waived the $100 joining fee.

Bradwell softball
tryouts July 30

The Bradwell Institute softball team will have tryouts at 9 a.m. July 30 at Lady Tigers Field.
Players must have a current sports physical to try out. For more information, call coach Sharyl Eastlake at 977-2016.

Bradwell Institute Cat Walk of Fame

Bradwell Institute is building a “Cat Walk of Fame” featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tigers coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.
To be eligible for the Cat Walk of Fame, former athletes must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college. To submit names or photos, email them to jmiller@liberty.k12.ga.us or mail them, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope for return, to:

HAPfan Golf
Tournament

The third annual HAPfan Golf Tournament will be July 30 at Cherokee Rose Golf Course in Hinesville. It will be a four-player scramble. Admission is $60 per person or $240 for a team of four. Proceeds from the tournament will go to providing scholarships to local high school teens from Liberty and Long County. Recreation Dept.

Registration for football and cheerleading will continue through Aug. 8 at the Long County Recreation Department. Football is open for kids ages 7-12 and cheerleading is open for ages 5-12.
