Georgia Bombers
to hold tryouts
The Georgia Bombers, a semi-professional football team, is holding tryouts at 2 p.m. Aug. 28 at Joseph Miller Park in Midway. Anyone with football experience is welcome to try out. For more information, call coach Darrell West at 321-9945.

Saturday Morning Youth Bowling

Eighth Henry “Hank” White tournament
The Henry “Hank” White Memorial Scholarship Fund will host its eighth annual Henry “Hank” White Memorial Golf tournament Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. The format is a four-man scramble and prizes will be awarded. Participants will have a chance to win a Ford truck with a hole-in-one at a designated spot on the green. LCRD referee course next weekend
There will be a soccer referee entry course for participants ages 12 and older from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at First Presbyterian Christian Academy. Lady Tiger summer conditioning
The Bradwell Lady Tigers softball team has summer conditioning from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9-11 a.m. Saturdays at the Lady Tigers’ softball field. Girls entering grades 8-12 are welcome to attend. Participants must have a current sports physical. Bring tennis shoes and a water bottle. Softball tryouts are at 6 p.m. Aug. 1. Lady Panther softball conditioning
The Liberty County High School Lady Panthers softball team has summer conditioning at 8 a.m. July 25-Aug. 1 at the Lady Panthers’ softball field. Tryouts are at 6 p.m. Aug. 1. Participants must have a current sports physical on file at the school.
Jiu jitsu training open

YMCA flag football/soccer set
Registration for the YMCA flag football and soccer programs is open to participants ages 3 and older. For more information, call 368-9622.

Physicals for military families set
Appointments for health screenings and sports physicals for military families are available. Appointments are open for Tuesday  at the Winn Army Community Hospital Pediatric Clinic, Thursdays at the Tuttle Army Health Clinic and Aug. 11 at the Richmond Hill Medical Home.  All appointments must be made through the Fort Stewart MEDDAC call center at 435-6633.
There will be a TRICARE representative at the Richmond Hill site for patients not enrolled at the clinic.
5K to help RHPD, Crime Stoppers
The first Squash for Josh 5K and 1-mile run will be held Sept. 22 in J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill.  
The 5K will start at 9 a.m. and the 1-mile run will start at 9:15 a.m.
The race is done in memory of Joshua Moore, who was fatally shot March 9, 2011, during an altercation in Midway.
Racers can register online at for $15 per person before Sept. 18. Race-day registrations are cash only and cost $20 per person. All pre-registered participants will receive a T-shirt and goody bag, while those registering on race day will get goody bags with T-shirts while supplies last.
Registration and packet pick-up will begin at 7 a.m. the day of the race. Organizers are accepting donations and sponsorships. Sponsors will have their companies’ logos placed on T-shirts. Race-day volunteers also are needed. For more information, call Danielle Byrne at 478-956-2940 or email at
Proceeds will be donated to the Richmond Hill Police department and Crime Stoppers.
