Midway United Soccer Club

Midway United Soccer, an outreach club of the Coastal Georgia Soccer Association in Savannah, is currently looking to fill teams for the upcoming season.
MUS will be accepting registration through midnight July 31 for 10U, 12U and 14U boys teams. Registration is $85 and the funds go toward field maintenance, referees, insurance and other related expenses.
Uniforms cost $50 and players can keep them at the end of the season. To register go to Coastal Georgia Soccer Association, CGSA, online. BI fall baseball season

Fall baseball begins at 9 a.m. Aug. 6 at Bradwell Institute’s baseball field. All interested players are encouraged to attend to practice and review information about upcoming games.


Flag football, open house

Flag football registration is under way at the Liberty County YMCA for children ages 3-13. The season begins Aug. 13.
Also, the Y will host a community open house from 1-5 p.m. July 31. The $100 joining fee will be waived for new members.

HAPfan tourney Saturday

The third annual HAPfan Golf Tournament will be July 30 at Cherokee Rose Golf Course in Hinesville. It will be a four-player scramble. Admission is $60 per person or $240 for a team of four. Proceeds from the tournament will go to providing scholarships to high school teens from Liberty and Long counties. Registrations can be sent to estafford@libertyregional.org or paid on the day of the event. Tee off is at 1:30 p.m.  For more information, call Elise Stafford at 545-3392.

Liberty County High softball

The Lady Panthers softball team will hold tryouts at 6 p.m. Aug. 1. Everyone participating in conditioning or tryouts must have a current school physical.

Hank White tournament

The seventh annual Henry “Hank” White Golf Tournament is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Cherokee Rose Golf Club in Hinesville.
The tournament format is a four-man scramble, and prizes will be awarded for first through third place, longest drive, longest putt, straight drive and closest to the pin on holes 3 and 17. Participants will have a chance to win two new cars for a hole-in-one. The prize for acing No. 3 is a 2011 Ford F-150. A hole-in-one on No. 13 will win a Toyota Tundra or Tacoma Extra Cab.
Additional prizes will be handed out during the awards ceremony, and dinner will be served after the tournament. 
The entry fee is $200 per team or $50 per person. The registration deadline is July 30.

Long County rec department

Registration for football and cheerleading will continue through Aug. 8, at the Long County Recreation Department. Football is open for kids ages 7-12 and cheerleading is open for ages 5-12. The registration fee is $25, and late registration is $35. For more information, go to the recreation complex or call 545-9112.

tryouts

The Bradwell Institute softball team will have tryouts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lady Tigers Field.

Learn basics
of basketball

Basketball fundamental sessions led by South Georgia Kings founder Jessie Fleming are from 1-3 p.m. every Sunday at the YMCA. The fee is $15 per session. For more information, call 320-9869 or email jrayfleming@hotmail.com.

Cat Walk of Fame at BI

Bradwell Institute is building a “Cat Walk of Fame” featuring former BI athletes who played sports at the college level. Tigers coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes and are gathering names and photos, but they’d like more.
To be eligible for the Cat Walk of Fame, former athletes must have graduated from Bradwell Institute, played sports at the college level and graduated from college. To submit names or photos, email them to jmiller@liberty.k12.ga.us or mail them, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope for return, to:
