Try out for Hinesville soccer

Hinesville soccer will host select tryouts from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 4, at the new soccer field at St. James Sports Center in Holmestown. The fee to try out is $50
Tryouts for the 13U Athena girls will be from 10 a.m.-noon June 4 at St. James Park.
Tryouts for the 14U and 16U Athena teams will be from
10 a.m.-noon June 11 at St. James Park. 16U and 17U Classic boys’ tryouts will be from 10 a.m.-noon June 11 at St. James Park.

LIT Park hoops championship

The Liberty Independent Troop Park basketball championship will be June 4 at the outdoor courts beside Stafford Pavilion in LIT Park. The 12U and 14U teams will start at 10 a.m. The 17U and adult teams will start at 1 p.m.

Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby

The Richmond Hill Exchange Club will hold its 21st annual Fishing Derby from 8:30 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 4, at the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery on Highway 144.
The free derby will be open to children ages 15 and younger who are accompanied by their parents or adult guardian. Awards will be being presented to children ages 12 and younger. Trophies for the largest single fish and most total pounds of fish will be awarded immediately after the derby for two age groups — 6 and younger and 7-12.

Summer Slam vendors sought

The annual Summer Slam event is scheduled for July 3 at Salter’s Field, and event director Ernie Walthour is accepting applications for food vendors and musicians/bands. The gates will open at 1 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.
The daylong event will feature a music contest at 3 p.m., car and motorcycle show at 4 p.m. and live music at 5 p.m. Evening headliners include Dirty Dollars, Milkk Mann and Fame Entertainment’s Lil Bun.

Basketball fundamentals

Sessions led by South Georgia Kings founder Jessie Fleming are from 1-3 p.m. every Sunday at the YMCA. The fee is $15 per session.

St. James summer camp

Registration is under way for the St. James summer day camp, which starts June 1 and will be open from 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. The camp is closed on all holidays.
The fee is $50 per week. The camp is open to children ages 5-14. Activities will include swimming, bowling, basketball, soccer, kickball and weekly field trips.

YMCA open registration

The Liberty County YMCA currently is accepting registrations for the following programs:
• Soccer camp, ages 5-14, camp will be held June 13-17
• Football camp, ages 5-14, camp will be held June 20-24
• Basketball camp, ages 5-14, camp will be held June 27-30

New girls’ AAU team in town

The Hinesville Lady Hawks girls’ AAU basketball team is seeking players ages 9-14. The organization is geared to players of all levels, and no child will be turned away.
The team also is seeking volunteer coaches and sponsors for its upcoming season.
The initial cost to join the team is $105, which covers the cost of the uniform and registration into the AAU basketball league. For more information, call coach Harvey Harris at 321-9150 or 570-1176.

Tiger Tee-Off on the way

The annual Tiger Tee-Off Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Harvey Overton Bradwell Boosters Club, is at 1:30 p.m. June 11 at the Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. The fee is $50 per person and $200 per team in a four-person scramble format. Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place teams.
