Safety First
driver’s ed course

 

A Safety First driver’s education course will be hosted at First Presbyterian Christian Academy. The course will be taught by David Jones and is open to students ages 15-17.

The course is a state-approved, complete course and will offer insurance-rate reductions and tax write-off upon completion. The course will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, April 19-22. There will be other dates designated by the instructor to incorporate driving courses. The course covers 30 classroom hours and six hours behind the wheel. Hurricane Junior Golf Tournament

The Golden Isles Junior Open is April 10-11 at Sea Palms Golf Resort on St. Simons Island. The registration deadline is today. The regular entry fee is $180 and the sibling rate is $135.

BI wall of fame submissions

Bradwell Institute is building a wall of fame featuring former BI Tiger athletes who played sports on the college level. Tiger coach Jeff Miller and his assistants have a partial list of athletes, but they’d like even more. Names and photos are being gathered. To submit a name or photo the following criteria must be met:

The former athlete must have graduated from Bradwell Institute. The student athlete must have gone on to play sports at the college level and must have graduated from college.

Commerce Golf Classic

The fourth annual Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic will be on April 23 at Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. Fees are $200 per four-person teams or $60 per individual player. scholarship applications

The deadline for applications to receive Henry "Hank" White Memorial scholarships is April 30.

Student applications: Graduating seniors of Bradwell Institute or Liberty County High School who are planning to attend an accredited college or university may apply for a $1,000 scholarship. Applications are available at the schools’ guidance offices. Two letters of recommendation and an essay must be turned in with the completed application.

Community scholarships: Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to Liberty County residents who are currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college or university. Applications are available at the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Office on Highway 84 in Hinesville, First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and the VFW Post on Highway 196. Two letters of recommendation and an essay must be turned in with the completed application.

Active Duty Military scholarship: One scholarship will be awarded to an active duty soldier stationed at Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield who is currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college or university. Applications are available at the SFC Paul R. Smith Army Education Center on Fort Stewart, Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Office on Highway 84 in Hinesville, First Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and the VFW Post on Highway 196. Two letters of recommendation and an essay must be turned in with the completed application.

2010 ADA Kiss-A-Pig ‘Porker Run’

Hop on a hog and help Team Liberty candidate Jon Long kiss a pig as he raises money for the American Diabetes Association. The run is open to motorcycles, cars and trucks. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Liberty Regional Medical Center, 462 E. G. Miles Parkway. Fees are $20 per person and $5 for additional hands.
