Bradwell baseball update

 

The Bradwell Tigers lost 21-0 to Calvary Day at home Friday night and the Liberty County Panthers beat Baldwin County 7-6 in 8 innings on the road. Read the full story in Wednesday’s Coastal Courier as both teams prep for the playoffs.

Weightlifters need help with expenses

 

 

Team Hinesville’s weightlifting team is seeking donations for upcoming trips to the AAU Junior Olympics and world and national qualifiers.

World ranked Olympic weightlifter Jenna Bussard, coach of Team Hinesville, said participants pay their own expenses so she is always eager to accept donations to help Team Hinesville. If you would like to make a donation, call her at 429-0931.

C-Port Lady Hornets

The C-Port Lady Hornets of Hinesville, a women’s semi-pro basketball team, is seeking sponsors.

The benefits of sponsoring the team include advertisement on a national-level.

Summer Slam seeks
talent, vendors

This year’s Summer Slam is July 5 and will include local musical talent, food vendors, car clubs and DJs.

Summer Slam organizers are accepting registration for local musicians, vendors and DJs who want to participate in the one-day event that usually draws hundreds of people.

The gates will open at 1 p.m. and admission is $5. The Decibel Drag starts at 3 p.m. and local musicians will take the stage starting around 5 p.m.

This year’s event will also feature a DJ competition.

Year of the NCO golf tourney

The Coastal Empire Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army is hosting its Year of the NCO golf tournament at the Taylor’s Creek Golf Course on Fort Stewart on Friday, June 19, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The rain date is June 25.

It’s a four-person scramble tournament and the registration fee is $30. Sponsorships are available for the following prices:

Title sponsor $2,500, meal sponsor $1,500, beverage sponsor $1,500, team of four and a hole sponsorship (AUSA non-member) $325, team four and a hole sponsorship (AUSA Member) $275, hole sponsor (AUSA non-member) $250, hole sponsor (AUSA member) $200, team of four $100 and individual players $30.

YMCA summer specialty camps

The Liberty County YMCA has set several specialty camps for this summer:

Soccer camp: June 1-5 for ages 5-7 (10-11 a.m.) ages 8-14 (11 a.m.-12 p.m.) Cost: $25 for summer campers, $30 members and $35 for others

Football camp: June 8-12 for ages 5-7 (10-11 a.m.) ages 8-14 (11-12 p.m.) Cost: $25 for summer campers, $30 members and $35 for others

Basketball camp: June 15–19 for ages 5-7 (10-11 a.m.) ages 8-14 (11-12 p.m.) Cost: $25 for summer campers, $30 members and $35 for others

Marne Lanes summer bowling leagues/meetings

There will be a team meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at Marne Lanes for the summer trio scratch three-person bowling team.

There will be a team meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Marne Lanes for the summer mixed four-person team, any combination.

St. James summer camp

Registration is under way for St. James summer day camp. Registration hours are from 2-7 p.m. and the fee is $50 per week. The camp hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday- Friday

Fort King George announces spring canoe excursions

Fort King George Historic Site has set a Spring Canoe Excursion program. Site guides will offer three canoe trips this season; May 9 and June 6 and 20 through the old rice canals of Cathead Creek. The complex maze of rice canals produces a unique ecosystem. Old cypress trees, rare Altamaha vegetation and wildlife will be present and interpreted by naturalist guides. The first two trips start at 9 a.m. will last at least two hours and should finish some time around lunch. The June 20 trip starts at 8 a.m. and will be extended into a longer paddle down Cathead Creek into Darien. This trip will last four hours and will finish at Skippers Dock in Darien. The trips cost $25 per person. The site will furnish all canoes, paddles and life jackets. CYS baseball, T-ball

Registration for youth baseball and T-ball on Fort Stewart will run through May 8, or until slots are no longer available.

Baseball is open to current CYS members age 7-14 (as of Aug. 1), boys and girls and T-ball is open to current CYS members age 4-6 (as of May 1) boys and girls.

Tentative age divisions for baseball will be 7-8 pitching machine, 9-10 pitching machine, and 11-14 live pitch. Register at CYS, Bldg. 443, Gulick Ave. (next to Corkan Pool). Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

If you would like to volunteer to coach, visit CYS or Jordan Youth Gym (Bldg. 608 W. 6th St.) and ask for an application. All new applicants must submit to screening and background checks.

LCRD summer programs

Registration for Liberty County Recreation Department 2009 Summer Programs will start May 1. Programs include day camp, swim lessons, swim team, sports camps, taekwondo, golf, tennis, track and field and more. Registration will be accepted at the LCRD Office on Highway 84 East in Hinesville, beside the National Guard Armory. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Registration will continue until all slots are filled on a first served basis. On-line registration is available at www.lcrd.net.
