Grow A Girl
Network tourney

 

The Grow A Girl Network golf tournament is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville.

Hole sponsorships are $100 or more and includes advertising on the course. Registration for golfers costs $50 per person or $200 for a four-person team.

The event will support the Grow a Girl Network’s building fund for a new location in Parkway Plaza at 445 E.G. Miles Parkway, suite 203, Hinesville.

Bradwell at LCHS for basketball scrimmage

 

Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High School will play a basketball scrimmage on Nov. 9 at LCHS. The girls varsity will take the court at 5 p.m. and the boys game will follow.

Tickets are $5 and are available by pre-sale only. No tickets will be sold at the gate. Ticket sales will begin Monday, Oct. 25 at either high school or the BoE office.

 

Scott’s All-Stars Chess Tournament

 

Registration is under way for the first Scott’s All-Stars chess tournament on Saturday, Oct. 30. The cost is $20 per player.

CYSS basketball and cheerleading

 

Registration for youth basketball and cheerleading is now under way until Nov. 12 or when all slots are filled. Basketball is open to all CYSS members ages 5-17 (age as of Jan. 1, 2011), and cheerleading is open to all CYSS members ages 6-13 (age as of Dec. 31, 2010).

Tentative age divisions for basketball are 5-6 co-ed, 7-8 co-ed, 9-10 boys, 9-10 girls, 11-12 boys, 11-14 girls, 13-14 boys and 15-17 co-ed. If there are not enough girls to form a league, the girls and boys squads in each age division will be merged.

Age divisions for cheerleading are 6-9 and 10-13. Participants can register at CYSS Parent Central Services, building T-0029, next to Fort Stewart Library. Hours of operation are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Volunteers are needed to coach basketball and cheerleading teams. Anyone who is interested can pick up a volunteer form at Parent Central Services or Jordan Youth Gym (building 608 W. 6th St.). Anyone who hasn’t volunteered to work for CYSS in the past year must fill out a volunteer form and submit to a background check.

 

YMCA basketball registration

 

Registration for the YMCA’s basketball program is open until Dec. 15 or until all team slots are full. Basketball practice begins Jan. 8. For more information, call 368-9622.

 

Community church bowling league

 

A community church bowling league needs new bowlers. The league meets at 6:45 p.m. each Thursday at Marne Lanes on Fort Stewart. Anyone who attends any church is eligible. Sign-up costs $19-$21 and play costs $8 each Thursday. Call Jeri Vick at 876-4351 or 222-0924.

Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run registration

 

Registration is open for the Dec. 4 Enmark Savannah River Bridge Run. Participants can register online at www.active.com, in person at Savannah’s Fleet Feet Sports or by downloading a registration form and mailing it in. The entry fee is $28 for anyone who registers before Oct. 31. The fee is $30 for participants who register Nov. 1-Dec. 2. The fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments. Participants cannot register on the day of the race.

The run gives participants the chance to conquer Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge, a 1.4-mile span at a 5.5 percent grade, 196 feet above the Savannah River. The event includes a 5K run/walk, a 10K run, a double-pump race, a team challenge, a double-pump team challenge and a quarter-mile kids run.
