St. James hoops camp

The St. James Sports Center will host a fundamentals camp Oct. 1. It is open to boys ages 12-14 and players in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. The camp is free, and participants can check in from 9-9:45 a.m. Camp starts at 10 a.m.
From 10 a.m.-noon, campers will participate in an intense fundamental workout. There will be a lunch break from 12:05-1:05 p.m., and campers are free to go get their lunch or bring their own. Drinks and snacks will be sold at the St. James concession area.
A guest speaker will take the floor from 1:10-1:30 p.m. The top 24 campers will be selected to participate in an all-star game, which will be videotaped. All-star players will receive free jerseys. Campers must bring shorts and shoes.

Fort Stewart youth bowling

Fort Stewart Youth Bowling will register bowlers ages 3-18 from 9 a.m.-noon Sept. 10 at Marne Lanes. Bowlers must register then to ensure being placed on a team. Play starts at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 24.

Golf tourney for Brandon

A golf tournament to raise funds for Brandon Hellgren, a 7-year-old who has been diagnosed with leukemia, will be Oct. 8 at Cherokee Rose Country Club.
The John E. Smiley Jr. “Jay Bird” Memorial Golf Tournament has established Team Brandon to help support Hellgren, the son of Bradwell Institute baseball coach Rhett Hellgren.
All proceeds will go to help cover costs associated with Brandon’s care. Entry costs are $50 per player or $200 per team. Hole sponsors also are sought.
The format is four-person scramble. Prizes will be awarded.

Heat Check hoops

Khari Collins will host a Heat Check basketball tournament Sept. 10-11. The tournament is open to ages 9-13 and will be played at Johnnie Fraiser Park. Food vendors will be on site selling concessions. Teams can register the day of the tournament. For more information, call 318-3097 or 370-2622.

Tuesday night bowling

YMCA soccer signups

Soccer registration is under way at the Liberty County YMCA for children ages 3-13. The deadline to register is Sept. 17. For more information, call 368-9622.

Hoops fundamentals

Basketball fundamental sessions, led by South Georgia Kings founder Jessie Fleming, are from 1-3 p.m. every Sunday at the YMCA. The fee is $15 per session.
Fleming also is organizing a new shooting club called the Young Gunz, which will meet twice a week to perfect shooting skills.
